Writer’s Contests with March Deadlines

February 27th, 2009 Posted in Writing Contests

I received a really great email from the folks at WritersMarket today. While many of us think to search WritersMarket for agents, magazines, and publishers we tend to forget that they also list some incredible contests. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather go through WritersMarket to find contests I know are real than hope and pray the ones I find online are legit.

Without further ado, make sure you check out the following…

The ALTA National Translation Award is a national contest offered by the American Literary Translators Association. If you have translation skills you should consider this contest. The deadline is March 31st and the top prize is $2,500.

Poets pay attention! There are very few opportunities for poets to become published these days. If poetry is your niche make sure you check out the Four Way Books Poetry Prizes competition sponsored by - you guessed it - Four Way Books. The deadline for entry is March 31 and the winner will receive $1,000 and his book-length collection will be published.

The Joseph Henry Jackson Award is a spectacular opportunity for a full-time writer looking for the opportunity to finish his work. The contest is open to authors between the ages of 20 and 35 who are working on fiction, non-fiction, or poetic pieces. The only drawback is that you have to be a resident of northern California (above the line dividing Montery Country from San Luis Obispo County) or anywhere in the state of Nevada to qualify. The award is part of a trilogy honoring Joseph Henry Jackson, James Duval Phelan, and Mary Tanenbaum. There are over $6,000 in prizes spread amongst all three awards.

Good luck to anyone who enters. Let us know how you make out!
