Growing Your Freelance Business
Every once in a while a freelance writer will find himself in a wonderful position - one in which he is comfortable. The bills are paid. There is food on the table. And he thinks he can take a break.
That last part is where most of us go wrong, though. That point in which you become comfortable is not the time to kick back and relax, but is more often than not the time you need to step your game up a notch and start growing your business.
But how?
Everyone dreams of finding a way to earn some passive income. You may want to start another website or blog, get into affiliate marketing, or have some other plan. Whatever your dream, use some of that free time to make it happen. That way the next time business is slow you’ll have something to fall back on (we hope, anyway).
Don’t ever stop marketing yourself. When I first started I had a bad habit of not marketing myself until the project I was working on was finished. The problem was that I’d end up with a week or so with NO WORK. That’s not good. If you continue to market yourself as you’re working on other projects you’ll constantly find yourself building new relationships and you’ll never run out of things to work on.
Start growing your business. Maybe it’s time to build up a team of writers or other specialists. Perhaps you could team up with a web designer and market yourself as a total web re-design package. Maybe you’ll just need a few people to whom you can pass on a few smaller writing assignments. If you have a team of writers you can take on a little more work. You’ll have to pay them, but you’ll have the opportunity to grow your business.
What I’m trying to say is that there’s no time like the present to grow your business. It’s easier to do when you’re busy than it is when you have nothing else on your plate and are worried about where your next rent check is going to come from. Take some time to focus on yourself and your clients will only reap the benefits of a more successful and confident you!
