Struggling to find something to write about so early in the week? Believe it or not, while every writer experiences an occasional bout of writers block, what we fail to realize is that inspiration is often found where we least expect it.
You are not the only writer struggling to find an idea and you will soon find yourself back in a writing frenzy. Until then, consider the following sources and see if you can’t find a way to turn something you find here into an idea for your next article or blog post:
- 1. Go online and research the current month or day. There are usually a ton of both nationally recognized and obscure holidays comings. Check for awareness campaigns as well.
- 2. Watch the news. Don’t stick to local stations alone. Watch regional and global news shows as well. You may hear of a story you want to research more.
- 3. Review some of your old query letters and consider rewriting parts of your piece or using them to spin off a new article with a fresh perspective.
- 4. Watch your local community for business openings. Watch for closings as well. There may be a story behind either.
- 5. Start searching for blogs in niches similar to yours. You may find leads for ideas you haven’t considered or researched yet.
- 6. Learn how to properly utilize Google Alerts. This tool will deliver links to various articles and blog posts in the niches you specify and you’re bound to find tons of great article ideas.
- 7. Learn how to use Google Trends as well. Google updates a list of the most searched for topics daily. You’ll not only have an article idea, but you’ll almost guarantee yourself interested readers.
- 8. Do you keep a blog? Was there a specific post that became more popular amongst your readers than you thought it would? Can you expand on this and turn it into an article?
- 9. Pick up your favorite magazine and read the letters to the editor. Do the comments indicate there is something missing? Can you fill in those gaps by writing your own piece?
- 10. Look at your own life. There must be some aspect you can expand upon. Are you getting ready to buy a house, sell a car, or even purchase some form of insurance? Give your readers insight and tips!
